Last Red Cent


I've been wanting to make a red ale for a while (since I had the Ninkasi Double Red). Anyhoo...here it is.

Ingredients:


Grain
9 lbs Pale Ale
2 lbs Munich
.5 lbs Crystal 120L
.5 lbs Crystal 40L
.5 lbs Crystal 30L
.21 lbs English Chocolate

Hops
1 oz Northern Brewer @ 60
.5 oz Northern Brewer @ 30
.5 oz Northern Brewer @5

Extra
Yeast Nutrient @ 15
Whirlfloc @ 15
1 lb Corn Sugar @ 7

Yeast
WYeast 1084 Irish Ale

Water
1 liter per pound of grain (3.35 gallons)
1 gallons of grain absorption
3 gallons sparge

Notes:
8-28-2010--Cradle to grave, this beer took me just under 6 hours. I left my house to pick up supplies at 2ish and was fully cleaned up at around 7:45.
8-29-2010--Fermenting very well.
8-31-2010--1.020. Pretty good for two days. I think it's finished, but I need to wait till a keg is free. The taste? To quote the wife..."It's really good. It has kind of a nutty taste." That's what she said...Literally :)
9-20-2010--Tap finally opened up (actually, I ran out of CO2 and this was the only one carbed up). I'm very impressed by this one. Really nutty with a soury finish. A lot like the Ninkasi. I better slow play this one :) This could be my best yet.
